Fun Fun Fun at Glentress…

Eight of our lads joined Spud, Stuart, Gary and Douglas on an amazing Mountain Biking Adventure this Saturday...

See the video on YouTube...

The guys met on Friday evening to learn about bikes… how to maintain them, how to fix a puncture, how to use the gears and breaks, and how to ride them safely. Then on Saturday, we headed off to Glentress for the main event!

We started the day by learning a few skills and techniques for Mountain Biking in the Skills Park (expertly demonstrated by Stuart and Douglas – thanks guys!), then we split up into groups… the lads took turns at enjoying the downhill route “Electric Blue” with its berms, jumps and drop offs… while the others played on the table tops, north shore and jumps in the Freeride Park.

We were hurled back up the hill in the van (kindly driven all day by Gary – thanks!), ready for our next blast on the downhill trails. We were blessed with beautiful weather all day… especially amazing considering the torrents of rain that had been forecast all week!

To end the day we had burgers and sausages cooked on our campfire, followed by bananas with chocolate and roasted marsh mallows. Finally, there was a quick round of “fluffy bunny” before the journey home.

Well done to JB, LB, RB, MM, AP, KS and CW… you’ve all earned your Cyclist Badge. This event also qualifies as a Hike Away… for some of you this is your first (which earns you a Hikes Away 1 Badge), and some of you have nearly earned your Hikes Away 5 Badge. You’ll be presented with your badges at the first Pack meeting after the school holidays.

A great day was had by all, and fortunately everyone made it home with only bruises, grazes and badges to show for it! And all the lads are up for doing it again soon… watch this space! See you after the holidays (unless we can squeeze in another adventure before then!)… Spud.

PS: Lost property with me includes a Polar Gear black lunch bag, a tube of Asda sun cream and an All Blacks black bike bottle. Contact Spud to get them back!
