Personal Safety Night

Last Friday we met some of our new Leaders (Chris, Neil and Nicola)... over the next few weeks we'll meet the rest of them! It's great to have more people to help us run Cubs... because more people = more fun!!

We started working towards our Personal Safety Badge...

Chris (aka Chewbacca) led a base on Internet Safety, and told us about a great website "Think U Know". It's got a cybercafe that you can play around in to learn more about keeping safe online.

Neil taught the guys about making emergency calls. They all know that 999 is free to phone and works in the UK. But now they also know that they could dial 112 from any mobile or any phone in Europe to get the local emergency services.

Katie (aka Yoda) played a traffic light game about "stranger danger". The Cubs made some good choices about the safest thing to do in some situations. Each Cub also got a handout with some top tips for keeping safe.

Nicola and Spud chatted about some places not to play, and some safer places to play. The Cubs learnt about the dangers of train tracks and their high voltage power lines, and about some dangers in and around building sites. They came up with some really sensible ideas and thoughts.

I was really impressed with the posters that the lads in the Blue Six made about Scouting using their computers... these will help them earn their Creative Challenge badge and their IT badge. And the lads in the Yellow Six had made some amazing models for their Creative Challenge badge. They had all obviously put a lot of effort into them, and they had a chance to tell all the other Cubs about their models. Well done to all of you!

Next week we'll complete the Personal Safety badge, and more of you will have the opportunity to show off your models and posters!

See you then,
Spud
